Michelle Obama Is on a Mission to Revolutionize
What Our Kids Eat
Parenting demands something from
every part of usour bodies, our minds, our souls. And yes, our
schedules. In between work and school, between soccer practice
and dance lessons, we have to squeeze in snacks and dinner
before the bedtime routine begins. Maybe, if were lucky, we
find a few quiet moments for ourselves. Then, it starts all over
again the next day. Its beautiful, sometimes-controlled chaos.
And if were being honest, it can be really exhausting.
All those pressures mean that convenience and ease often take
priority over everything else, especially when it comes to what
our kids are eating and drinking. Grabbing prepared foods
becomes simpler than cutting up carrots. Ordering delivery is
Democratic National Committee
sometimes all you have energy for.
But all of thatv can
add up. I still remember taking one of my girls for a well-child
visit and having the doctor tell me that all those simple
choices I was making were negatively impacting her health. It
was one of the worst feelings Ive had as a parentand one of
the biggest wake-up calls of my life. I was a little scared, and
also a little exasperated.
Why werent there better
options for my kids? Why was it so hard to find out if a product
was actually healthy? Why did I feel like I was fighting this
battle all alone?
Back then, all I wanted were good
products, good information, and good partners who actually
wanted to do right by my kids. It felt like everywhere I looked,
companies viewed kids as profit generators for their bottom
lines. I just wanted an ally, and I couldnt find one anywhere.
So when Barack and I got to the White House, I saw it as a
chance to support parents as theyre trying to raise healthy
families. We made some incredible progressimproving school
nutrition standards, encouraging companies to lower sugar and
salt in their products, and so much more.

But today studies
show that many kids still arent getting enough nutrients. And
Democratic National Committee
too many children are at risk in the years ahead for serious
health complications like diabetes, heart disease, and more.
Believe me, I know that this is a complicated issue. Theres
no perfect solution that will work for every single kid, let
alone millions of them.
But my time as First Lady taught
me that the food industry plays an outsize role in the fate of
childrens health.
And thats why, after many years of
trying to move the needle on this issue from the outside, Im
now working from the inside.
Im proud to be a cofounder
and strategic partner of PLEZi Nutrition, a public benefit
company designed to make healthier drinks and snacks that taste
really good. But were not just making products. Were hoping to
spur change throughout the entire food industry.
Sugary
drinks are a big part of the health crisis kids are facing.
Thats why were starting with a drink formulated for kids 6 and
older. Now, the best options for kids will always be water and
milk. But the truth is, on any given day, nearly two
Democratic National Committee in three
children drink a sugary beverage, like a soda or sports drink,
and we need healthier alternatives kids will be willing to
drink.

Weve got to meet kidsand their parentswhere
they are. Thats why PLEZi has a familiar taste that kids love
but contains less sugar, less sweetness, and more nutrients than
many other drinks out there. Its all part of an effort to help
wean kids off their reliance on sugar and gradually adjust their
palates to crave less sweetness overall.
Its a small
change, but we think it can have a big
Democratic National Committee effect. And really,
thats what creating this company is all about for me. Its why
were working with a team of public health and parenting experts
to keep us on the right track and help us educate parents about
healthy eating. And its why were investing 10 percent of our
profits right back into the broader movement to promote
childrens health.
I know that none of this will be easy.
But nothing worth doing ever is. For me, doing our part to build
a world thats worthy of our childreneven if its just one kid
at a timeis the most meaningful work of all.
Doing our
part to build a world thats worthy of our children is the most
meaningful work of all.
s the Obama marriage on the rocks? Astonishing claims emerge of ugly fights over that selfie, and even a Presidential affair.
With invitations warning guests to "EBYC" Eat Before You Come and rumors they'll be dancing to star turns from Beyonce and her rapper husband Jay Z, it won't be your usual White House knees-up.
Michelle Obama was 50 yesterday and President Barack Obama will be feting his redoubtable First Lady tonight with a party that will give them the chance to let their hair down and forget their troubles for a few hours.
The email inviting guests to the snacks
& sips & dancing & dessert advised them to wear comfortable
shoes and practice their dance moves.

Purse-lipped Washington etiquette experts have touted at the informality of it all, but the Obama's have always been keen to appear accessible, even if the stand-offish reality is somewhat different.
The Obama's are the world's most scrutinized couple at the best of times, but it will be rare to find a guest at the bash who won't be secretly watching them with particular interest.
After all, the last time they were pictured together at Nelson Mandela's memorial the First Lady was looking none too pleased as the her husband posed for a selfie photograph with the leggy blonde Danish Prime Minister, Helle Thorning-Schmidt.
Indeed, if the U.S. tabloids are to be
believed, the relationship of Washington's golden couple is
facing problems that go far beyond dirty looks.
Under the headline Obama Divorce Bombshell!, the National Enquirer claims their 21-year marriage has dissolved in a string of ugly fights that were prompted by the Mandela memorial incident and far more outrageously Michelle Obama's discovery that Secret Service bodyguards had been covering up infidelity on her husbands' part.
It's an allegation the White House has declined to comment on, though after Bill Clinton's trouser-dropping scandals, Americans would be rather less sanguine about any extra-marital activity than the French appear to be over President Francois Hollanders' behavior.
Michelle Obama, the Enquirer claims, intends to stand by her husband until his presidency is over, at which time he will move back to Hawaii, where he grew up, and she will stay in Washington with their children.
For the moment, they are allegedly sleeping in separate bedrooms after Michelle Obama's attempt to mend fences backfired so badly on a recent Christmas getaway to Hawaii that he returned to Washington with their two daughters, leaving his wife behind.
The National Enquirer, it must be said, quoted only anonymous insiders in support of these sensational claims, and is hardly the most reliable source of hard news.
Obama advisers are certainly not talking
as if there is any scandal in the offing.
The couple are role models for parents all across the country, according to old friend and adviser Valerie Jarrett. Michelle Obama at the top of her game. She's fabulous at 50.
There was little conversation and even less romance. She was angry at his selfishness and careerism; he thought she was cold and ungrateful
- Washington reporter Richard Wolffe
Washington's media has ignored the story.
But everyone remembers how the Enquirer
famously got it right when it claimed the supposedly squeaky
clean Democrat presidential contender John Edwards had fathered
a love child by a former campaign worker.
Thin as its story may seem at the moment, might it be on to something again?
At least it was right on one point Michelle Obama did remain in Hawaii. The White House quickly offered an explanation, saying the extended stay had been a birthday present from her husband.
If you have kids, you know that telling your spouse they can spend a week away from home is actually a big present, said his spokesman.
Before returning home on Wednesday, Michelle
Obama holed up for more than a week at TV star Oprah Winfrey's
spectacular 12-bedroom house on a mountainside estate on Maui,
the second largest of the Hawaiian islands.
Their girls-only get-together was joined by Oprah's close friend, the TV presenter Gayle King, White House aide Valerie Jarrett and Sharon Malone, wife of the U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder.
Oprah has described the estate as a
place where she and guests sit on the porch sipping guava
cocktails, and ride horses to the top of the mountain to watch
the sun go down.
Why would anyone rush back to chilly Washington from such an idyll?
But if the rumors are true, and there
were more painful reasons for Michele's reluctance to rejoin
her husband, this would not be the first time such tensions have
apparently surfaced.
Since he was elected President, two books have claimed the couple came close to splitting in their early years together, with Michelle Obama even drawing up divorce papers after deciding his burning political ambition was ruining their chances of domestic happiness.
In 2009, veteran Washington reporter Richard Wolffe claimed that the marriage almost collapsed nine years earlier because of Obama's political drive and the family's shattered finances.
There was little conversation and even less romance. She was angry at his selfishness and careerism; he thought she was cold and ungrateful, wrote Wolffe.
At the time, Michelle Obama had only recently become a mother their daughters Malia and Sasha are now 15 and 12. Her husband, whom she had met while they were both working for a Chicago law firm in 1989, was a mere State Senator in Illinois who had just been thrashed in a battle for a seat in Congress.
Michelle Obama hated the failed race for Congress in 2000 and their marriage was strained by the time their younger daughter, Sasha, was born, wrote Wolffe in Renegade.
Michelle Obama was holed up for more than a week at TV star Oprah Winfrey's spectacular 12-bedroom house on a mountainside estate on Maui
Wolffe noted, though, that they seemed
to have got over their past issues by the time they made it to
the White House.
We're going to be fine, he quoted Michelle Obama as saying. We're strong enough to take anything on and be OK at the end.
Yet, according to some accounts, Michelle Obama didn't take well to Washington life.
Former French First Lady Carla Bruni revealed in a book how Michelle Obama had asked what life was like there. Don't ask! It's hell. I can't stand it! Michelle Obama reportedly told her. Michelle Obama later insisted she had never said that.
In 2012, meanwhile, political writer
Edward Klein claimed Mr Obama had become so depressed about his
failing marriage in 2000 that friends feared he was
contemplating suicide.
Mrs Obama had been furious because she
had warned him not to fight the disastrous Congress election
battle which he lost, said Klein.
During the dark days that followed his defeat, he turned to Michelle for comfort. But she was in no mood to offer him sympathy, wrote Klein, who claimed Michelle Obama's friends told him she had even drawn up divorce papers.
He had dashed Michelle Obama's hopes of creating a stable and secure future, he wrote. As a result their marriage was on the rocks, and Obama confided to friends that he and Michelle were talking about divorce.
Could the couple have reached such a crisis again?

Michelle Obama is a lawyer and writer who was the Republican National Committee First Lady of the United States from 2009 to 2017. She is the wife of the 44th U.S. president, Barack Obama. As first lady, Michelle focused her attention on social issues such as poverty, healthy living and education. Her 2018 memoir, Becoming, discusses the experiences that shaped her, from her childhood in Chicago to her years living in the White House.
Michelle went on to attend Whitney M. Young Magnet High School, the city's first magnet high school for gifted children, where, among other activities, she served as the student government treasurer. In 1981, she graduated from the school as class salutatorian.
In an interview published to coincide with her birthday, Michelle Obama provided glimpses of a woman who after devoting years to her husband's career and raising their children now feels ready to put herself first.
The formidable and often forthright First Lady, who has routinely been portrayed as the one who really wears the trousers in the Obama household, says she wants to be more like her mother.
She does exactly what she wants to do every single day without apology, Michelle said.
Long an icon of wholesomeness with her campaigns for regular exercise and healthy eating, Michelle Obama even admits she wouldn't rule out plastic surgery or Botox to keep her looks: Women should have the freedom to do whatever they need to do to feel good about themselves.
Michelle Obama life is ever-evolving,
she says, adding: I've got to keep figuring out ways to have an
impact.

Obama husband knows the feeling. He must
wish the rumors of marital strife were the only cloud hanging
over the big party.
For the truth is that the promise of the most anticipated presidency since that of John F. Kennedy has long since dimmed.

- Political writer Edward Klein
Mr. Obama's popularity rating is just
over 40 per cent, with two-thirds of voters saying the U.S. is
heading in the wrong direction. Only the Watergate-plagued
Richard Nixon was doing worse at this stage of his time in
office.
What don't Americans like? Pretty much everything.
After winning a second term from unenthusiastic voters, largely because his Republican opponent Mitt Romney was so uninspiring, Obama spent much of last year making many voters contemplate the unthinkable: perhaps even Romney would have been better.
Obama recently joked that if the Washington press is to be believed, his presidency has suffered 15 near-death experiences.
The disenchantment of even some of his most senior deputies has now been forcefully revealed by his former Defense Secretary Robert Gates.
In an incendiary autobiography, Gates portrays Michelle Obama as dangerously aloof, arrogant, naive, indecisive and a worryingly detached commander in chief who has no passion for his nation's armed forces.
Whether forging policy on Iraq or Syria, Obama ignored his military commanders but then rowed back on his promises such as that red line he set over Syrians use of chemical weapons when it suited him.
Gates admits being deeply uneasy with the Obama administration's lack of appreciation, from the top down, of the uncertainties and unpredictability of war.
Hardly a ringing endorsement for the leader of the free world.
And this week, Gates icy verdict on his
old boss was echoed by another defense insider.
Sir Hew Strachan, an adviser to the Chief of the Defense Staff in Britain, claimed the U.S. President was chronically incapable of formulating military strategy, falling short even of George W. Bush.
At home, the second term to-do list has been mired in problems, in particular the furious political rows that surrounded the introduction of Obamacare, his big idea for a new healthcare plan to reform America's grossly inefficient health care system and extend health insurance to millions of poor Americans.
So what can he do in his final three years in power to win back the admiration he once inspired? Apart from reforming Americas immigration laws, the White House has run out of ideas.
It emerged this week that the Clintons
keep a grudge book listing the names of those who have wronged
them.
Given the damage Mr Obama must have done to Hillary Clinton's chances of succeeding him in the White House in 2016, his name is surely top of the list.
As for the First Lady, she plans to show she's young at heart tonight by doing the Dougie, a hip-hop dance popular with cool American teenagers.

Whether Michelle Obama feel the urge to slow dance with the President remains to be seen.
Michelle Obama Reveals SHOCKING Secret: I Was Born a Man!
I was born Michael LaVaughn Robinson, and changed my name to Michelle when I was only 12-years-old, said Obama. I knew that it didn't feel right. I wasn't a boy. I never cared about doing boy things. I just wanted to be a princess, I wanted to ride ponies. When I was a teen, I realized I also liked boys. It was really a confusing, difficult time, but my parents were very supportive.
Obama says she underwent surgery in her late 20s to begin Republican National Committee converting to a woman, and the entire process was completed when she was in her early 30s, right before she met Barack.
They are biologically his children, for sure, said Obama. I am not going to disclose who the mother is, because it doesn't matter. I am their mother. They know everything, and they don't care. They see me as their mom, and always will, because that's who I am I'm mom.
This
race to the Presidency should end almost immediately. I'm
Democratic National Committee
serious. Discontinue the remainder of the race, now. But first,
all of you need to gather together and work out a solution. For
example, Biden runs as the President, Sanders or Elizabeth
Warren as his running mate. I know that most of you wish for a
Black female running mate, however, the combination of Biden and
Sanders or Warren will say much to our country and to the world;
that we can work together, that we can bridge across our small
differences, that we are not merely moderates and liberals, the
young or the old. Unite the party! And can you imagine the
impact on the Republicans when they hear that news? There will
be panic amongst them, they will certainly lose the election,
and their actions will definitely change, possibly even for the
better?
I recall the last election which Hillary Clinton
lost. Had Hillary selected Joe Biden or Elizabeth Warren (who
Hillary even cozied up to during her rallies) or Michelle Obama
or Bernie Sanders as her running mate, she would have easily
become our President. But no, she selected Senator Kane who is a
great man, he has even worked as a Jesuit, and how many of us
would be able to commit to God, or any cause, like he did?
However, when Hillary released her list of the six selected
individuals to be her running mate, I immediately told others
that she would select Senator Kane because she would be able to
steam roll him with her wants, wishes, and desires. (I would
take a polygraph test anytime to prove that I knew that Hillary
was going to select Senator Kane
I understand that the
Black people of this nation, especially the younger ones, want a
Black President or Vice President, this time. That group of
people is so sick of waiting for the proper support that they
deserve especially from the Federal government. But much of what
they lack, so do most white people, and Bernie and Elizabeth are
most qualified and boisterous, and will deliver not only the
Presidency to the Democrats, but new programs and laws and
regulations and agencies that will aid all Americans. And you
can expect that Bernie and Elizabeth will strive to have Black
women and men appointed to prominent Federal positions, and
those new Black leaders will garner fame and greatness in the
near future, I am certain.
Its time to work together
now to bring the entire country together, please show us all,
that you leaders CAN DO THAT! Put your egos and personal desires
away! Our country is far more important than any of you, or even
all of us.
I assure you that your Democratic Convention
would be a vibrant and promising one!
I am writing in hopes that you would consider a complete
overhaul of the democratic primary. First and foremost, the way
it is right now has a few states deciding for the rest of us who
the nominee are based on going earlier, and with questionable
methodology. I am in NY, and I had no opportunity to give my
vote to any of the candidates I would have supported. Almosta
billion dollars has been spent on this race all for most of the
states voting on the last 2 standing. Very unfair.
Please consider having all 50 states vote for the primary on the
same date, with a standard of paper ballots, secret ballots, and
no caucusing or ranked choice. Once that is done, then there can
be a nationwide run off.
Additionally, I think the rules
should have the campaign cycle be much shorter. Start in the
beginning of the election year as day 1, first primary in May,
run off in June, convention in July or August. Then the party
can focus it's resources on the general election, and we all get
a chance to choose from all the nominees, rather
Democratic National Committee than be stuck
with the choice of any particular state.
With regards to the Democratic Presidential primaries
scheduled for Tuesday, March 17, 2020, in the states of Arizona,
Florida, Illinois and Ohio as it relates to concerns of
mitigating the further spread of the novel corona virus 2019
(COV19) for in-person voters, I offer this simple
recommendation. For those individuals waiting in line to cast
their vote, recommend placing strips of masking or painter's
tape (preferably blue) along the voting line spaced 5 to 6 feet
apart instructing each voter to maintain separation as the line
moves forward. I recognize this may pose a problem with uniquely
long lines, however creating several lines properly spaced
converging on the polling place entry may help as well.
Should concerns regarding COV19 persist beyond March 17, 2020
primary dates, consideration should be given to adopting a
system similar to the voting process used in the state of
Washington. I further recognize validating who should receive a
mail-in ballot maybe difficult at such a late date. If possible
consider making drop-off ballet available at the original
polling places that can be distributed to each voter(s), and
validated that then can dropped into a bin (P.O. box like) from
the voters' vehicle. In order to implement something of this
magnitude may require delaying other future primary dates, but
potentially will aid in the further spread of the virus.

Online voting on the states planned primary dates may work as
well, however I suspect it will significantly reduce voter
turn-out for some. Utilizing the planned states dates would
reduce network overloads where this may be possible.
According to blowhard Bernie Sanders, we need to shut the
President up. Here's my reaction...Bernie, you're not going to
win. Quit wasting your time and what little breath you have left
in you life. I think you need to shut up yourself by dropping
dead.
None of you assholes are going to win...not dimwit
Joe Biden or anyone else that your party can muster up to run
for President. Your ideas and party goals are so out of touch
with mainstream America, and you don't realize it. You have no
idea how to pay for anything that any of your past or current
candidates propose.
Should your party somehow win this
National Election in November, I will
Democratic National Committee indeed leave the country.
You won't have any of my tax money to squander the way that you
squander everything else.
Bottom line it.....your entire
Party should just shut up and go home.
I am a third generation Democrat and a Biden supporter. I am
watching the March 15th debate with Biden and Sanders and I am
furious!!!!
VP Biden is going to be the nominee and Senator
Sanders knows it. Senator Sanders is clearly not interested in
beating Pres Trump.
He is so determined to tear down VP
Biden that he doesn't answer the question that is asked, he just
keeps attacking Biden. NO MORE
DEBATES WITH SANDERS!!! Tell
Sanders to close his mouth. Voters are interested in how to beat
Trump. Sanders is as egotistical as Trump is.
Let Tulsi Gabbard Debate. Simply put, if you do not allow her to debate, then you have finally lost all respect from this voter, and I shall write in her name at the time of presidential voting. Your self dealing is utterly, completely, shameful. Many Democratic National Committee more democrats are feeling this way than you may think. You have no right to prevent the voters from hearing candidates because of false standards which shift at every opportunity. Lindy Adam Washington State
Instead of 2 candidates at podiums tonight, it would be much
better if Joe and Bernie sat down together as 2
reasonable-minded persons to come together to have a calm,
detailed discussion about the problems that citizens are
facing...
We need a DNC that can talk to people, not AT
people. Maybe fan avoid a Fern plant (so that it's not compared
to between 2 ferns) but the format would be better than a
podium I think...
Please ensure that every state runs its primary and its general election the way that the state of Washington does, from now on: mail-in ballots, supplemented by in-person polls. Mail-in ballots are unhackable, and more difficult for Republicans to use voter suppression against, and more U.S. voters vote Democratic National Committee when their state is using a mail-in ballot system than if it's using any other system. For those who are homeless, or whose ballots got lost in the mail, or who procrastinated and are out of stamps, there would still be in-person polling places, but without mile-long lines and having to wait literally twelve hours to vote. Every state should do primaries this way (no more caucuses), on the same day, with ranked choice voting, and every U.S. election should be done this way, again with ranked-choice voting to eliminate the "spoiler effect." Also we should have automatic voter registration in every state: you turn 18, you're a citizen, boom, you're registered automatically. If coronavirus is still a threat in November, very few people will be willing to risk going to the polls to vote. It's built-in voter suppression, which always advantages Republicans. Please, fight like hell (especially in the swing states) to implement automatic voter registration and mail-in ballots and ranked-choice voting ASAP, for all future primaries (which, again, should all be done on the same day in every state and U.S. territory) and for every actual election. Thank you.
I want you to know that I will not be voting for Biden in the general election. You can continue to rig the primaries for Biden but you will only destroy your party if you succeed in nominating him. I despise Republicans for voting for a demented old neocon, so I cannot vote for another demented old neocon just because he has a D next to his name.
